Phones is the story of the people of National Telephone Company and their triumphs and failures as they lead their company through its most difficult times. Although the story is fictional, it parallels the break-up of the Bell System in the early 1980’s.
Bradley Forrester is a newly appointed sales Manager at Texas Southern Telephone, a subsidiary of National Telephone. Brad assumes his new position just as the first news of the break-up of his company is heard. While trying to hold his department together, he must also oversee the installation of telephone service for Intercity Communications Unlimited (ICU) National Telephone’s largest competitor. The installation becomes a nightmare and Brad finds himself in the middle of the largest lawsuit in U.S. history.
Besides dealing with the problems of his new job, Brad must also deal with his personal demons—his marital difficulties as well his feelings of inadequacy. To further complicated matters, he fears that he is falling in love with a beautiful young widow in his office.
The story encompasses all facets of human drama and continues to grow in excitement until the final page.
